Actually, freedom of speech does not mean that one has the right to say anything without persecution. Freedom of speech means that the government can't make laws restricting your speech (though someone obviously needs to tell the FCC). The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States doesn't say a doggone thing about persecution. In fact, the entire Bill of Rights exists to protect us from the government, not from each other. Persecution's fine. If you're saying anything at all controversial, you can pretty much expect to be persecuted.
